The publisher offers an informal series of Antimanuels: …de philosophie, …de sociologie, …d’éducation sexuelle. [JKL]

Disfa: Dictionnaire synchronique des familles dérivationnelles de mots français. [ed. Claude Gruaz]. Limoges: Lambert-Lucas, 2008. 2 v.; 1277 p.: 21x30 cm. ISBN 9782915806625: 90 € From the CNRS-HESO (Histoire et structure des orthographes et systèmes d’écriture) & CNRS-DYALANG (Dynamiques sociolangagières), a dictionary with a “forme arborescente” that synchronically presents terms and their semantic (not etymological) derivatives, based on a corpus of 75,000 entries from Lexis (1992 [Walford7 3:5794]) and other dictionaries of current usage published since 1990. The 545 “family” entries appear to be arranged in order of frequency as determined by Juilland et al’s Frequency Dictionary of French Words (1970); each subentry indicates grammatical role and meaning, and place in the overall family structure. Etymological relations that depart from the semantic “family” are placed in a note at the end of each grouping. Includes an 8-item bibliography and an index of the “family” entries. The text is also available online at http://sites.univ-provence.fr/delic/disfa/, though the URL is not indicated in the Introduction. [JKL]

Annotated, rated entries indicate if a site has downloadable files, audio or video material, participation or subscription possibilities, purchasing, or an array of links to other sites. A useful section (with 5 sites) is “Comment rechercher” under “Education/Travaux pratiques encadrés”, p. 201f. Includes no see-references, only occasional duplicate entries, and an index of site names. Although the coverage of literature, publishing, the book trade and libraries is lean and dispersed, I’m ordering a desk copy. [JKL]
